SOAR Fundamentals Training

SSI/SSDI Outreach, Access, and Recovery (SOAR)

SOAR is a national model designed to help individuals who are experiencing or at risk of homelessness and have a mental illness, medical impairment, and/or a co-occurring substance use disorder apply for Supplement Security Income (SSI) and/or Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) benefits.

Introduction to Social Security Disability Programs

Introduction to Social Security Disability Programs is a 3 hour training providing basic information about the Social Security disability program and application process. Individuals will learn Social Security’s definition of disability to help identify appropriate referrals and learn about resources available for clients.

SOAR Fundamentals Training

SOAR Fundamentals is a 1 ½ day training providing information about the Social Security disability programs and disability determination process. Individuals will learn how to use the SOAR model to complete Social Security disability applications and specific procedures for Minnesota.

SOAR Online Course

The SOAR online course provides an alternative to in-person trainings. It takes approximately 16 to 20 hours to complete, but you can complete at your own pace. The SOAR online training provides information about the Social Security disability programs and key elements of the SOAR model. You will receive a practice case that provides an opportunity to apply what you learn in the course by completing an SSI and SSDI application packet using the SOAR model.
